CHE-124: General, Organic, and Biochemistry

Course Description

An introduction to principles of general, organic, and biological chemistry relevant to health-related professions. It is assumed students are able to apply concepts from introductory chemistry. Topics include: advanced dimensional analysis, redox reactions, reaction energetics, solutions, acids/bases, nuclear chemistry, drawing organic structures, functional groups, common organic reactions, carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and metabolism. The laboratory reinforces concepts presented in lecture and introduces new laboratory techniques.

Prerequisites

CHE 100 or high school Chemistry with a minimum grade of C AND MCC level 6 Mathematics placement (or higher) or MTH 096/098/099/104/165 (or higher) with a minimum grade of C, or MTH 060 and MTH 160, both with minimum grades of C.
